Sing Along at the Ladies Sangeet

Sing Along at the Ladies Sangeet: popular Punjabi wedding songs. A grandmother, a young girl and four women in pastel outfits sing and clap around a dholak.

About the Book

A room full of women sitting together on the floor, singing from copies of the book at a ladies sangeet.

'Sing Along at the Ladies Sangeet' brings together over three hours’ worth of beloved Punjabi wedding songs in one handy collection.

Written in both Devanagari and English scripts, it is perfect for those who speak or understand Punjabi but cannot read the Gurmukhi script.

You’ll find in here most of the songs traditionally sung at Punjabi weddings. If you have multiple copies of the book at the gathering, it will make it easy for everyone to join in.

While nothing can replace learning these songs from an older relative, this book includes explanations of difficult words, phrases, and cultural references to enhance the expression of the song.

So gather around the dholki and fill the room with laughter, dancing, teasing, and singing - that’s what makes a perfect Ladies Sangeet.

This book is a must-have companion for every Punjabi wedding.

About the Authors

Namita and Manisha, in purple salwar suits, smiling as they read through copies of the book together.

Namita & Manisha are friends who share a love for singing, storytelling, and discovering the old traditions of Punjab. Though life has taken them across India and around the world, Punjab continues to live in their hearts through the songs, stories, proverbs, and memories passed down by their parents and grandparents.

This book is their attempt to carry forward those cherished traditions to a generation that may neither read nor speak Punjabi. It brings together wedding songs whose verses today survive only in fading memories, family gatherings, and scattered YouTube recordings.

“This book is dedicated to our Parents, Grandparents, Uncles and Aunts who rooted us in the Punjabi culture of family, festivity & good cheer.

This book is a gift to our children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who we hope will always remember where they came from.”

Reviews

“Love it!!! It’s going to become a reference book for every sangeet function!

I like the fact that you made the effort to write the lyrics in Hindi and English. A good job done, it’s a legacy from you to the kids and grand kids.”

“A chance to preserve our past for our future generations.

This collection of wedding songs presented in Hindi and English not only take us on a trip down memory lane, they provide a tangible connection to our past.

If you have ever been to a Punjabi wedding you will relate to these songs, and if you’ve never been to one but have heard stories about them being a big party these songs will give you some idea of why that is!”
